Bedingfield Announces House Candidacy

Greenville businessman vows to fight for “local values.”

Eric Bedingfield, Candidate for SC House of RepresentativesMauldin, SC -- Mar 15, 2006 Greenville native Eric Bedingfield announced Friday, March 17, 2006 at a press conference in front of Mauldin City Hall that he will campaign for election to the South Carolina State House of Representatives District 28. The event was attended by more than 40 supporters and well-wishers including State Senators Danny Verdin, Mike Fair, and David Thomas; as well as Representatives Gary Smith, Dwight Loftis, Bruce Bannister, and Bob Leach.

“This will be a campaign for the future,” Bedingfield said. “Energized with the strong support I have already received from people in the community, I am prepared to work as hard as necessary to get the job done. As a father and businessman, I look forward to the opportunity to go to Columbia to fight for our local values and to help our Republican leadership make needed changes so that South Carolina can be the best place possible to live, work, and raise a family.”

“For the past several weeks, I’ve been talking with a whole lot of different people about this race, and I have been amazed and gratified at the level of support for my candidacy,” Bedingfield said. “In recent years, political campaigns have become very expensive, and in many cases shrill and negative. My promise to the voters is this: I will run a clean, honest, and positive campaign, focusing on the issues that are important to the people of our district.”

Bedingfield cited several accomplishments during his service on County Council including maintaining the county’s triple-A credit rating, improving business recruiting efforts, and holding the line on taxes which he said had made Greenville a “prime destination for new business development.”

“As a member of Council I have had the chance to work closely with our Legislative Delegation and to see how they do their job in serving the needs of our citizens. With this experience, I believe I am now ready to join them and help the people of Greenville County at the state level.,” Bedingfield continued. “As your Representative, I will work hard to be a positive and effective voice for the values I have found in this particular place and time.”

Eric Bedingfield was elected to the Greenville County Council in 2002 and is chairman of the Public Service, Planning and Development Committee.

A life-long resident of Greenville County, Councilman Bedingfield and his wife, Sabrina, have four children. From 1985 until 1993, Councilman Bedingfield served in the United States Marine Corp Reserve. He is a local businessman.

District 28 encompasses most of Southern Greenville County including Mauldin and Piedmont south to the Laurens and Anderson county lines.
